What is a refuge?

A women’s refuge is a safe house providing emergency temporary accommodation, protection, support, a source of help and comfort where women and children can stay free from domestic abuse.

There are a number of refuges throughout the country and all their addresses are strictly confidential. Some women may wish to live in refuges sensitive to their cultural needs. These are available and where possible we will try to find a suitable place for you.

Here in Craven we are working with our partner organisations to set up a refuge or safe houses in the district. The working group has examined our needs and identified that we require a new build, self contained refuge in the Craven area.

Meanwhile there is emergency temporary accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. This may be in a hostel, bed and breakfast of a refuge outside Craven.
